Our Mission

The Central Shenandoah Youth Suicide Prevention Initiative is part of a statewide effort, coordinated by the Virginia Department of Health,  to reduce risk for suicide among Virginia’s youth, ages 10-24.  Specifically, we work to:

    • Increase statewide public awareness about youth suicide and youth suicide prevention;
    • Help communities, schools, churches and youth service organizations to develop and implement comprehensive suicide prevention plans.
    • Teach “Suicide Prevention First Aid” (or “Natural Helper Training”) to a wide range of people who live, work, and support youth.
    • Improve youth access to appropriate prevention and intervention services.
