Our Mission

The Central Shenandoah Youth Suicide Prevention Initiative is part of a statewide effort, coordinated by the Virginia Department of Health, to reduce risk for suicide among Virginia’s youth, ages 10-24. Specifically, we work to:

Increase statewide public awareness about youth suicide and youth suicide prevention;
Help communities, schools, churches and youth service organizations to develop and implement comprehensive suicide prevention plans.
Teach “Suicide Prevention First Aid” (or “Natural Helper Training”) to a wide range of people who live, work, and support youth.
Improve youth access to appropriate prevention and intervention services.

2012 Virginia ASIST Training Dates:
Additional ASIST trainings will be offered in 2012. The schedule will be announced in January 2012.
